FAQs
Costs
The season cost will vary amongst each team as it is based on the number of players and their season schedule of games and travel costs etc. The cost per player for our club ranges between $600-1000 with an additional $90.00 for player uniforms. Each team is encouraged to find team sponsors to decrease player costs. We also accept Kid Sport and other financial aid programs - the club does everything they can to ensure a child does not miss out on the opportunity to play because of financial circumstances.
PRACTICES
Every team in the Spartans Program is provided with 2 weekly practices of 90 minutes. Most practices start between 6 and 8pm.
Locations will be provided upon season starting - all locations are within North Bay and vary between High schools, Elementary schools and the YMCA.
GAMES
Most of our Spartans teams have been playing in the OBL (Ontario basketball LEAGUE) , which is a structured league associated directly with the Ontario Basketball Association. The league is broken down into multiple divisions, with a max of 8 teams per division. The league has 12 scheduled games and after the first 6 games they perform a RE-RANK. After the re-rank you may find yourself in a higher or lower division based on your record. This is beneficial to ensure teams are always playing the right competition level for as many games as possible! The OBL dates are already released, however, the locations and game times do not come out before the 2 week mark and usually with about 5-10 days notice.
The schedule is layed out so that you have FIVE weekends... four of those weekends are what we call "Down and Back" meaning, teams go down on either SATURDAY or SUNDAY, play 2 games only and return home. The 5th weekend is an "Overnighter" meaning, teams play 4 total games, 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. Games are typically played in the GTA region.
OBA Season Schedule here
Teams may also schedule exhibition games and tournaments where they see fit and as they become available. The coach will provide the schedule for these once they have been organized.
In addition, teams have the option to participate in the ONTARIO CUP tournament. However, this is optional. The coaches for each team will make the decision to participate or not based on what works best for the team.
Uniforms
First time players will need a new uniform, returning players can often reuse their previous uniforms as long as they match the new teams. Uniforms are typically $90.
Travel
It is the responsibility of the athlete's family/guardian to get their athlete to every practice and game (including out of town travel). Carpooling with other teammates is encouraged!
